Zirconia crowns are one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments. Every year thousands of Dental Tourism Tourists travel to Turkey to get this treatment done. However, not every Zirconia Crown is the same, and Zirconia Crowns have a very sensitive production process.

Often clinics work with a dental lab to manufacture these crowns. We have worked with many dental laboratories in the past and created beautiful smiles. Material and production technologies have been developed over time. The aesthetic approach and patient expectations are not the same as in 2007. Today, with digital dentistry technologies, we have the opportunity to make all kinds of design changes without producing the latest crowns. Our clinic has invested in digital production technologies in the last 2 years and we started to produce all metal-free crowns and veneers in the office. In addition to producing crowns in a shorter time with a more beautiful design, we also use the highest quality Zirconia and laboratory materials that normally cannot be used by a dental laboratory due to cost cuts.

Now i start to explain you Zirconia Crown treatment step by step.

When our patient first comes to the clinic, we collect all the information we can. We take a panoramic x-ray, we take photos and impressions. And after we discuss with the patient's expectations (shapes, sizes, colour etc.) we start the surgery part. It generally takes one or two hours under local anesthesia and when the surgery finished we immediately take the teeth impression again with an intraoral scanner and send the data to our laboratory department.

Design part is very important. A dental technician and your dentist design the teeth together at this step. We use 3Shape Design Studio at this step. There are plenty of dental design software in the market. However, for a complete smile makeover, this software is in the leader position. Alternative and popular some other softwares might be more useful while desgining a single tooth restoration. But for a complete design 3shape Design Studio is more suitable. On the other hand, we use 3shape intraoral scanner in order to get impressions, so the softwares are completely match each other.

When we finished the design, we start to print temporary teeth with this shape from a 3D printer. Generally after 24 hours passed the first appoitment, we see our patient again and to check how these temporary teeth seem in the mouth. We check the sizes, shapes, bite etc. The patient has a chance to check them how they seem and we can make any changes at this step.

After the patient confirms the design, we want the final colour selections is made. There are plenty of different brands in the market and each brand normally has its own shade guide. But when a clinic works with an external laboratory, wrong colour problem occurs a lot. Sometimes, the colour guide in the clinic and in the laboratory can be different. Or both colour guide will be same but these are not the original colour guide of the product. Because generally laboratories pick cheap products and colour slightly changes. In our clinic, it's impossible have this problem. Because we use the Ivoclar Color Shade Guide, which is the official colour guide of Ivoclar Emax & Emax Prime Zirconia restorations.

By the way, let me give you some information about Emax Prime Zirconia. It's made in Germany by Ivoclar company which is world's leading dental product producer. This restorations can't break as easy as Chinese-made alternatives. Normally Zirconia material can be very

Prime model's advantage is, it has gradient technology. It combines the high-strength zirconia with the high translucent zirconia in the same block. This gives us a chance to create very strong restorations with very esthetic levels. Normally both can't be find in the same restoration. But Emax Prime has it.

We place the selected Zirconia Block into the milling machine and the teeth are milled from the block. It takes a few hours and then the restorations are placed into the sintering furnace. Sintering process is also takes a few hours depending on the quantity and brand. In our clinic we use Ivoclar's milling machine and sintering furnace. These machines have special programs for the Emax Prime Zirconias and with top sensitivity restorations are produced. A third party Zirconia block can be processed in the same way. But these blocks are unknown to the machines and they can't be as technical sensitive as Emax Prime Zirconia Crowns.

Sintering heat goes up to 1500 celcius degrees and problems at this process can create micro cracks or unsintered areas on the crowns. This will lead further problems.

After sintering finished, if it's needed, we can still make some removals or additions with same colour porcelain layer. We still have a chance to adjust the colour slightly. Before finalizing the process, we apply a Glaze coat over the crowns.

Zirconia material doesn't have enough fluorescence. Because of that we pick a special Glaze material which has fluorescence effect. And we apply it at least twice for each restoration.

Finally our new Zirconia Crowns are ready to cement. We invite our patient to the clinic just 48 hours after the first appointment. The design has already been tried, the colour is definitelly the picked colour and there is no question mark. This is how we prepare the teeth, design them, produce them and finalize the treatment. All done in our clinic. This is the outcome of our digital workflow.
